Instructions

Step 1

Gather your supplies and prepare the heels

Gather your supplies and begin by wiping away any dust on the shoe with a damp cloth and leaving it to dry overnight.

Step 2

Prepare the glue

Fill the Crystal FX Glue Syringe with enough E6000 Plus Resin Glue for your project, be careful to not take more glue than you need. The easiest way to do this is to place the end of the syringe inside the nozzle of the E6000 Plus glue tube and pull the plunger on the syringe while gently squeezing the tube of glue. This will transfer the glue from the tube to the syringe with minimal mess and exposure to the air.

Step 3

Guard against air bubbles in the glue syringe

Once the glue is transferred you are likely to have a small air bubble in the syringe, hold the syringe vertically so that the bubble floats to the opening at top and gently push on the stopper, pushing the air out until there is only glue left inside. You can then attach the needle tip, completing the syringe.

Step 4

Give yourself a guide for your design

For this embellishment project we are creating an ombre style scatter with the crystals, ranging from full coverage around the foot of the shoe to almost no coverage further down the shoe. You can change the design of this and follow the same steps if you wish but quantities may vary.

Step 5

Apply the glue

Use the loaded syringe to squeeze out a thin layer of glue around the outline of the foot, on the edge of the shoe, drawing out your chosen design and leaving it for 5 to 10 minutes to get tacky. Be careful to not apply too much, otherwise you will risk the glue running in unwanted directions. We also advise doing this stage in small sections when working on three dimensional objects, such as the toe, sides and back of the shoe, to minimise the risk of accidentally touching the glue while it’s still wet or risk the glue running.

Step 6

Place the crystals

Use the Wax Picker Tool to gently place the SS16 Vintage Rose Serinity Crystals onto the glue. Try to keep the crystals close together with as few gaps as possible for the best effect. It is best to start with the outlines and work in rows. Once you have applied your first row around the edge, apply your next row of glue just below this row. Allow the glue another 5 minutes to get tacky and apply crystals again to this new row. Apply each row in a honeycomb style.

STEP 7

Begin Ombre Scatter

Apply 3 rows of solid coverage SS16, meaning crystals tightly packed. Apply another layer of glue below, allowing time for the glue to get tacky again. Next Apply SS16 and SS12 Serinity Crystals in alternating order while maintaining the honeycomb pattern. The next layer you will apply glue and allow to get tacky, now alternate sizes again however leave a gap of 4 of the above crystals in-between each size. Once you have completed this row, begin applying glue where you wish the crystals to scatter, leaving more space between the crystals, try to apply crystals where you see any gaps, alternate between SS16 and SS12 however, once you get further down the shoe, only apply SS12 to maintain the ombre scatter illusion. Apply less and less crystals as you near the sole until you have left a little space between the sole and crystals with only one or two filling this space.

STEP 8

Let the glue dry

Tidy up the edges with Isopropyl alcohol if needed and let it dry overnight, once the glue is safely dry you can turn the shoe to see if you have missed any gaps.

Congratulations you have completed the project !

Take your time and work slowly to ensure a clean and professional-looking finish. You can add as many or as few rhinestones as you like, depending on your personal style. Once the shoes are fully embellished, allow them to dry completely before wearing them to your prom. Not only will these DIY rhinestone embellished prom heels be a show-stopping addition to your outfit, but they will also be a fun and creative project to work on leading up to the big day. Get ready to dazzle on the dance floor with your one-of-a-kind, sparkling shoes!
