Step 1
Gather your supplies and prepare the glasses
Gather your supplies and begin by wiping away any dust on the sunglasses with a damp cloth and leaving it to dry. Split your crystals into two halves of the same quantity, sizes and shapes.
Step 2
Prepare the glue
Fill the Crystal FX Glue Syringe with enough Gem Tac Glue for your project, be careful to not take more glue than you need. The easiest way to do this is to remove the plunger from the syringe, insert the nozzle of the Gem Tac Glue Tube into the syringe touching one wall, tilt the syringe and tube to a 45-degree angle so that while gently squeezing the tube of glue, glue slowly runs down the syringe. This will transfer the glue from the tube to the syringe with minimal mess and exposure to the air.
Tip: If working with children on this craft simply purchase the Gem-Tac Glue 5ml Tube and simply carefully squeeze dots from the tip of the tube.
Step 3
Guard against air bubbles in the glue syringe
Once the glue is transferred you are likely to have a small air bubble in the syringe, hold the syringe vertically so that the bubble floats to the opening at top and gently push on the stopper, pushing the air out until there is only glue left inside. You can then attach the needle tip, completing the syringe. For this project we used the yellow tip Gauge size 20.
Step 4
Give yourself a guide for your design
For this embellishment project we are following the outline of the top of the heart sunglasses. You can change the design of this and follow the same steps if you wish but quantities may vary. Lay your sunglasses on a flat surface folded.
Step 5
Apply the glue
Use the loaded syringe to squeeze out small dots of glue around the top end of the glasses, getting sparser as you scatter them further down. Allow 2 minutes to get tacky. Be careful to not apply too much, otherwise you will risk the glue running in unwanted directions. We also advise doing this stage one lens at a time to minimise the risk of accidentally touching the glue while it’s still wet or risk the glue running.
Step 6
Place the crystals
Use the Wax Picker Tool to gently place the Estella Crystals onto the glue. Try to keep the crystals scattered in shape, size and colour for the best effect. We also tried to when working further down the outline of the sunglasses, to use smaller sized crystals such as the Crystal Shade in SS8. Each lens should dry to a safe level to work on the opposite lens after 10 minutes. Place crystals on the nose bridge as well if you wish! You can alter the design to suit your style by changing colours, shapes and sizes however quantities may vary.
STEP 7
Let the glue dry
Tidy up the edges with Isopropyl alcohol if needed and let it dry overnight, once the glue is safely dry you can try on your sunglasses!
Once you've finished embellishing your sunglasses, let them dry for a few hours or overnight to ensure the rhinestones are securely attached. Then, your dazzling new shades are ready to wear!
