Component | Component Name / Link | Quantity |
Estella Pearls 3mm Rosaline | 1 x W/S Pack
Preciosa Seed Beads 10/0 Amethyst | 1 x 20g
Beading Needles Size 12 | x 1
Bead Buddy Thread Magic | x 1
Pink or white sewing thread | x 1
Pink / white felt or fabric of your choice | x 1 |
Step 1
Preparing your Fabric
The fabric should be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the beads and pearls. In this instance we chose pink felt because it is resistant to fraying and the colour compliments the pink of the Rosaline pearls. Place the ghost-shaped template onto the fabric and trace around it using a pencil or tailor's chalk. Then cut out the ghost shape precisely, ensuring smooth edges.
Step 2
Prepare your thread
To guarantee a strong and long-lasting piece of beadwork it’s best to condition your thread before you begin. Do this by running the thread through the waxy substance of the Bead Buddy several times before you start. That waxy coating will guard against fraying and the risk of decay over time. You will even find the thread is easier to work with because it’s less likely to tangle.
Step 3
Positioning the Estella Pearls
Thread your needle with a double strand of thread and tie a secure knot at the end. Starting from the bottom of the ghost shape, insert the needle from the backside and bring it up towards the top. Slide an Estella pearl onto the needle and push it down to meet the fabric surface. Ensure the pearl is centrally positioned and pass your thread back down through the fabric. Repeat the process, adding Estella pearls one by one along the traced ghost shape until you reach the other side. For this design we used concentric lines of pearls which gives a uniform feel to the final embroidered piece.
Step 4
Add the floating fringe
The tassel fringe that forms the lower half of the ghost adds a satisfying swoosh and sway to the little character and to create each tassel you will pass the needle through several pearls before add one final pearl that will act as a stopper and then thread back up through the rest.
Step 5
Bring the ghost to life with Preciosa Seed Beads
At this point you should have the shape of a ghost with no definable features. You add these by sewing on the Amethyst Preciosa seed beads over the top of the pearls. This adds dimension to the piece and you can choose the expression of your character with a few simple stitches.
Step 6
Hand Sewing the Patch onto your clothes
Thread your needle once again with a suitable thread color, and tie a knot at the end. Position the ghost patch onto your desired clothing item or accessory, ensuring it aligns aesthetically. Starting from the backside of the fabric, insert the needle through the fabric and the patch, coming up towards the top. Sew the patch to the garment using small and even stitches, ensuring the patch is securely attached on all sides. Repeat the stitching process, working your way around the entire patch for maximum durability.
